Columbia Glacier – Two Day
Explore a glacialscape “yet being made”.
John Muir in his Travels in Alaska wrote “One learns that the world, though made, is yet being made”. This overnight adventure, in the northern reaches of Columbia Bay, allows you to witness the evolution of a new fjord as Columbia Glacier continues it’s drastic retreat. Here, mountains are still being shaped, rivers, coves and bays still being formed. The powers of ice, water and rock dominate this landscape. Flora and fauna are pioneering this zone that just a decade ago was concealed under ice. Here, is the opportunity to explore a virgin glacialscape like few people have. Paddle with icebergs calved from the largest tidewater glacier in Prince William Sound. Hike over moraine and polished rock to view the glaciers upper reaches in the peaks of the Chugach Mountains. Camp to the sights and sounds of “the morning of creation”.
