Sawmill Bay to Valdez – Three or Four Day
From salmon streams to a glacier terminus.
Add an extra day to our popular Shoup Glacier 2-or-3-day itinerary to explore Sawmill Bay State Marine Park and the spectacular coastline through the Valdez Narrows. Examine this complex salmon-based ecosystem as you paddle upstream with salmon destined to reproduce and expire (July – September). Keep an eye out for eagles, harbor seals, sea lions and black bears as they frequent this area to feast on nature’s bounty. Hike to a picturesque alpine lake to stretch your legs, pick blueberries or search for insectivorous sundews among muskeg meadows. Trace picturesque shoreline through the Valdez Narrows under cascading waterfalls.
