Sawmill Bay – Salmon Streams to Alpine Lakes
Sawmill Bay’s convoluted shorelines and lush forests are a perfect place to paddle and hike.
During the spawning season (early July through early September), salmon race from the Pacific Ocean into Prince William Sound bound for their natal stream. Examine this complex salmon-based ecosystem as we paddle upstream with salmon destined to reproduce then expire. Keep an eye out for eagles, harbor seals, sea lions and black bears as they frequent this area to feast on nature’s bounty. Hike to a picturesque alpine lake or through forest and muskeg meadows to stretch your legs, pick blueberries or search for insectivorous sundews.
