I had the pleasure of spending three beautiful days paddling from Sawmill Bay back to Valdez, with the wonderful and fun Pete and Maria! These photos are from this most-recent three-day fully-guided Sawmill Bay camping trip.
As if the view wasn’t enough. . . . fresh-picked wild blueberries for a snack!
Our campsite in the serene Sawmill Bay was right next to a stream that happened to have a Salmon run while we were there. We experienced the excitement of paddling with hundreds of Salmon swimming upstream directly underneath our boats!
As we paddled out of Sawmill Bay on our second day, we weaved our way through many of these fishing seiners and got to watch them pull up Salmon. A true Alaskan experience!
The paddle from Sawmill Bay to Shoup Glacier, where we spent our second night, allows us to experience the pristine beauty of Prince William Sound.
We’ve entered the amazing lagoon in front of the magnificent Shoup Glacier!
Pete and Maria chose this amazing campsite to spend our second night. We sat outside, watching and listening to the glacier, marvelling in the beauty of our surroundings.
The third morning we went on a short hike to get a bit more up-close-and-personal with the glacier!
Then it was time to get back in the kayaks to paddle back to Valdez.
Before exiting the lagoon at Shoup Glacier, we passed by this Black-Legged Kittiwake (a type of Seagull) rookery, which is quite an amazing sight!
We were blessed with calm seas and beautiful sunny skies for our final day!
So much beauty to look at along the shoreline. . . wildlife, wildflowers and waterfalls!
Thanks Pete and Maria for a wonderful trip!
