Hello! This is Ilene. I’m so excited to be back in Valdez, Alaska, after an adventurous winter of ski touring and hotspringing in Idaho and Colorado, and scuba diving and sea kayak guiding in warmer climes. Now I’m back amongst the iceburgs, Sea Otters, Arctic Terns, and glaciers of my favorite place in the world. . Prince William Sound, Alaska! I (and my fellow kayak guides) will be posting photos and updating this blog frequently, so check us out throughout the summer to follow our adventures, and post some comments! We love to hear from you!
While the new kayak guides were on their training trip, I held down the fort (somebody had to work around here!) and had a full week of Columbia Glacier day trips. Here are a few photos from the week. Enjoy them, and we hope to see you soon!
I couldn’t resist capturing this moment:
SO, COME KAYAKING WITH US. . . . OR ELSE I’LL COME AFTER YOU!
I’ve just been out to Columbia Glacier for the first day trips of the season. The sun was shining, there was lots of ice to explore, and a wonderful time was had by all!
Admit it. . . you wish that you were in this kayak!
Happy paddlers! Big icebergs!
Ice that has been left to hang out on the old terminal moraine of Columbia Glacier.
Along with navigating through lots of ice in Columbia Bay, we also have the opportunity to paddle along the shoreline in Heather Bay, where old-growth Sitka Spruce forests give way to rushing waterfalls like this one.
